    PATIENT FRIENDLY MEASURES:
bullet
Extended Working Hours in the OPD: The Institute, as a unique example, runs its OPD and all the related supportive services from 7:00 AM till late evenings - till the last patient has been attended irrespective of the time, on all regular working days. Round-the-clock emergency services at the Institute are expected to commence by the end of Dec 2011.

  The Institute has been established specifically to manage the needs of cancer patients only;

    The Institute has latest facilities for imaging, laboratories, external radiotherapy, LDR manual brachytherapy and chemotherapy. However, for the present, the Institute does not have HDR brachytherapy, surgical facilities, ICU, bone marrow transplant, endoscopy and nuclear medicine facilities. HDR brachytherapy, surgical facilities, ICU and endoscopy facilities are expected to get commissioned by Dec 2011 while the Nuclear Medicine and Bone Marrow Transplant facilities are expected to commence by June 2012. Till such time, the Institute tries to help patients requiring these facilities through other institutions in the region to the extent possible;

  For blood transfusion, the Institute presently avails the facility from the Regional Blood Bank in the adjoining GTB Hospital, but in-house blood bank facilities are also expected to become functional by June 2012;

    The Institute accepts referred as well as direct ‘walk-in’ patients for providing its services, however the patients having been diagnosed outside might be required to bring their slides/ paraffin blocks / tissue specimen etc for further evaluation at this Institute;

PROCEDURE FOR PATIENTS

  • NEW PATIENTS: Patients coming for the first time should report at the Reception Desk of the Institute. They should indicate their preference whether to be seen in General OPD or in the Private (Paying) OPD and follow further advice accordingly. About 40-45 new patients report for advice and treatment daily at this Institute. While every attempt is made to see all the patients at the earliest, but it takes about 40-45 minutes to work up a new patient in detail for the first time. Attempt is also made to get all the investigations completed and reported on the same day. Hence, it may take about 4-6 hours for a new patient on the first day.

  • ON RE VISITS: On revisits after initial registration during the first visit, patients should report at the Revisit counter for respective category to obtain their waiting number in the queue for that day. About 600 - 800 patients report for follow up daily as at present, but no patient is ever returned unattended on any day irrespective of the time.

    • PRIVATE OPD & WARD FACILITY: The Institute has facilities for General and Private Wards, Semi Private Ward and Deluxe Suites depending upon the patient’s choice. Facilities in General OPD and General Ward are absolutely free for all, as at present while in Private OPD and Wards, the patient shall have to pay for all the services at the prescribed rates. There is no difference, as far as medical care is concerned, in the treatment of patients, irrespective of their paying capacity. The Institute is in the process of obtaining formal empanelment with various Govt/PSU organizations like CGHS, DGHS, ESI, DDA, Railways and Medical Insurance Agencies etc for the convenience of patients who may be eligible for medical reimbursements of their treatment as per their entitlement.

  The Institute also provides screening facilities (Executive Health Check up) for apparently asymptomatic and healthy individuals;
